Somatic Sculptural Facial Massage in Long Beach
A somatic facial is an invitation to work with the face as part of the whole body, not as something separate from it.
At Sacred Skin Alchemy, I combine sculptural facial massage, lymphatic facial work, facial fascia release, optional buccal or intraoral massage, botanical skincare, and intentional touch to support both visible change and deeper release.
why work beyond the skin?
The face does not exist in isolation. Jaw tension and facial “puffiness: can be connected to the neck. The neck can reflect what is happening through the shoulders, breath, posture, and scalp. The tissues of the face are also influenced by facial fascia, musculature, fluid movement and the patterns we repeat every day without realizing it. That is why my work extends beyond traditional skincare.
During a session, I may work through the face, jaw, neck, décolleté, shoulders and scalp depending on what I am feeling within the tissue and what your body is communicating that day. Rather than treating one isolated area, I look at how tension moves through the surrounding structures. This allows the work to feel more integrated and often creates a different kind of facial release than working on the skin alone.
The intention is not to force the body into change, but to create enough space for tension to soften, movement to return and the face to settle into a more open and supported state.
the nervous system as a guide
How a treatment is received matters just as much to me as the technique itself. My approach is intentionally slower and more responsive than a treatment built around completing a rigid sequence.
I pay attention to breath, tissue resistance, changes in expression and the subtle ways the body responds to touch. Pressure is introduced gradually, and you are always welcome to communicate what feels supportive and what does not.
There may be moments of deeper sculptural work followed by stillness. There may be breath. There may be quiet. You do not need to talk throughout your appointment. You do not need to perform relaxation. You are also never expected to push through discomfort simply because a technique is supposed to be effective.
The goal is to create an environment where the nervous system has enough safety, time, and space to soften into the work.

What Happens During a Session?
Every session is slightly different because I am responding to the person in front of me rather than following one identical routine.
We begin with a brief conversation about your skin, areas of tension, what you have been noticing in your face or jaw and anything you would like me to be aware of that day.
From there, the treatment unfolds intuitively. I may begin with botanical cleansing and skin preparation before moving into lymphatic facial massage, neck and décolleté work, facial fascia release, sculptural massage and deeper attention through the jaw, temples, and scalp.
Depending on the session, we may also incorporate optional buccal or intraoral massage, intentional breath, moments of stillness, Reiki or energetic work, and botanical skincare selected specifically for your skin.
Some appointments naturally lean more deeply into sculptural work, while others become slower, quieter, and more restorative. I do not force every technique into every treatment or move through a predetermined sequence simply for the sake of completion. The session is shaped by what your skin, tissues and body are presenting that day, allowing the work to remain responsive, intentional and personal.
who is this work for?
This work may be a good fit for you if you experience:
jaw holding or clenching
facial tension
tightness through the neck or scalp
facial puffiness
a feeling of heaviness or stagnation
stress that tends to show up physically in your face
a desire for natural facial sculpting without aggressive aesthetic treatments
a preference for slower, intentional touch
curiosity about buccal or intraoral massage
a desire to experience skincare in a more whole-body way
You do not need to be experiencing pain or intense tension to benefit from this work.
Many clients simply come because they want their facial to feel less mechanical, more intentional and more connected to the body as a whole.
-
Buccal massage is an intraoral facial massage technique in which I work both externally and inside the mouth while wearing gloves. This allows me to access areas of the cheeks and jaw from a different angle than traditional external facial massage.
-
Functionally, this work can be especially supportive for jaw clenching, muscular tension, restricted movement and TMJ-related tension. Intraoral work allows for gentle stretching, lengthening and release of the muscles involved in chewing and habitual jaw holding, helping the lower face feel less compressed and more mobile.
Aesthetically, chronically shortened or overactive facial and jaw muscles can contribute to a face that appears tense, compressed, or pulled downward. By encouraging those tissues to soften and lengthen, buccal massage may help create a more open, lifted appearance through the cheeks and lower face while supporting natural facial movement and definition.
The intention is never to force the face into a new shape, but to reduce unnecessary holding so the face can return to a softer, more balanced resting state.
-
It should not feel sharply painful. Some areas may feel tender, particularly if you hold significant tension through the jaw or cheeks. I adjust pressure throughout the treatment based on your comfort and feedback. You’d experience a sensation more closely related to “pressure” than “pain”.
-
Every person responds differently. Some clients notice visible changes immediately, particularly in puffiness, tension and facial openness. Those effects naturally evolve as you return to your normal movement, expression, hydration, stress and lifestyle patterns.
Consistency matters. Regular sessions can help support better tissue mobility, reduce recurring patterns of tension and maintain the benefits of sculptural and lymphatic facial work over time. Many clients find that the more consistently they receive this work, the more familiar their face and body become with releasing rather than returning as quickly to the same holding patterns.
Results are not permanent, but they can become more sustainable when the work is supported consistently and paired with awareness of habits like jaw clenching, posture, breath, and stress.
-
Always. Buccal massage is entirely consent-based and can be skipped for any reason. You can also ask me to stop the intraoral portion at any time during your treatment
-
You may notice that your face feels lighter, softer, more mobile, or less tense. Some clients see more visible definition and lifting or reduced puffiness immediately following treatment.
You may also become more aware of areas where you habitually hold tension, particularly through the jaw, forehead, neck, or shoulders.
-
There is no single schedule that is right for everyone and I do not believe every client needs to be placed on the same treatment frequency.
For general maintenance, many clients do well with a session every 6–8 weeks as part of their regular skincare and body-care practice. If you are working with more persistent jaw tension, facial holding, puffiness, or muscular restriction, you may benefit from coming a little more frequently at first, such as every 4–6 weeks, and then spacing appointments out once the tissues begin responding more consistently.
Some clients prefer to book only when they notice increased tension, clenching, stress, swelling, or a sense that their face and body are asking for more support. Others enjoy keeping a regular monthly appointment because they value both the visible results and the way the treatment helps them slow down and reconnect with their body.
Frequency can also change depending on what is happening in your life. Stress, sleep, travel, hormonal shifts, jaw clenching, workload and daily habits can all influence how quickly tension returns.
My recommendations are always flexible. We can talk about what you are hoping to address, how your tissues respond after treatment and what feels realistic for your schedule and budget, then adjust from there.
